Does anyone have any info regarding Rocket label (Not the Elton John one). I came across a couple of EPs last week in Leeds Market featuring cover versions by artists named Frank Bacon, Tony Steven and Laurie Lee (A World WIthout Love, My Boy Lollipo etc). The label colour was a similar colour to the old Embassy Labels. Any info would be welcome.

Rocket Records were run by Australian ex-pat businessman Allan Crawford - he had a number of other similar covers labels (including Crossbow and Cannon), and for a while he had his own pirate radio station (Radio Atlanta) that played nothing but these cover versions. Unsurprisingly, Atlanta wasn't too successful, and eventually was bought out by Radio Caroline to become Caroline South.

Crawford went on to create the Top Of The Pops LP series for Hallmark - his arranger Alan Moorhouse took most of the singers with him to MFP where they worked on some of the early Hot Hits LPs.

    Hope that helps!
