Does anyone know of a decent stand alone tape transport with a USB port? Mrs SK has about 100 tapes that I made up for her when we were courting and she wants to transfer them to her laptop. I know you can plug into your Hi-Fi but that's in the record room. We need something we can attach anywhere, anytime-most likely the kitchen. Mrs SK bought something like this and it's next to useless, terrible quality. Anyone know of a decent model that runs at a constant speed?

I Don't know about quality but ion do a standalone one: http://www.ionaudio.com/products/details/tape-2-pc I see them occasionally at car boot sales and chazzas I wouldn't want to pay more than 25 quid for one. They do a walkman sized one too. I seem to remember Aldi did a line of these too probably under the tevion brand.

Yes that looks like the sort of thing. It's discontinued now by the look of it. I never go to boot sales but that's what I'm going to have to look out for I reckon. As you say, wouldn't want to pay too much for one. I've told her I have all the records but she's sentimentally attached to the tapes- plus she's scared to play my records, and wouldn't know where any of them were anyway- I don't exactly have a proper filing system. Cheers chief

They do crop up on eBay on a regular basis, I doubt they see much use so probably worth a punt if its nearby or cheap enough.

It was a lovely tradition- and of course each had a homemade cover usually scraped together from magazines. The thing with Mrs SK is that if I play something and it was on, say 'Unusual Method for Relieving a Burnt Tongue' she automatically expects to hear the next track from that tape. The disappointment if Leroy Hutson is not followed by Tony Hatch can be painful to observe. Of course, once she'd snared me her interest in my records vanished overnight (it's,'your bloody records' now) but she still loves the old tapes
