  • ECM Whats essential?

More by accident really but I have a small collection of ECM records and would like to add some more.
    These I like:

I am sure there is a Eberhard Schöner record that isnt boring but I cant seem to find it.

Bonus Points for Proto HipHop such as this:
    All the Wolpertingers

        only have a few:

Don Cherry / Ed Blackwell - El Corazón

(surely one of ECM's finest sleeve designs!)

        Keith Jarrett - Köln Concert
(also have his Invocations / Moth and The Flame, not sure I'd recommend it though)

Gavin Bryers - Three Viennese Dancers
totally pretentious concept, but I liked the music

        and Steve Reich

Edward Vesala's 'Nan Madol' came out on Japo first then reissued on ECM

The record that got me into jazz. Not free jazz, jazz.

Terrific, deeply moving record - I think I know side one pretty much off by heart.

Outstanding free jazz - aggressive, much rawer than the label is reputed for and bursting with creativity.
                Vardy.....¡¡¡PELIGRO!!!

I have most of the Terje Rypdal catalogue, I would highly recommend "Whenever I Seem To Be Far Away" and "Odyssey" - exciting spacey guitar music with an unexpected cast of players (fuzz bass, mellotron and French horn...). Also, "Sart" is an excellent companion piece to the "Afric Pepperbird" album.

Another one is David Torn's "Cloud About Mercury" which is an incredible album that gets no respect. ECM seems to have taken down any tracks on YouTube, but here's the group t live:

"Köln Concert" is great, but "Bremen/Lausanne" by far the better. IMHO.

I'm sure I must have others but can't think. I have the Dom Um but it's not his bet work imo

Thanks chaps. I dont think I will ever get into that Keith Jarrett.
Most of these seem reasonably easy to get in the real world too so thats a nice bonus.
I made a list list for my convenience. I missed a few I think but this should keep me busy.
Did I mention that I dont like Jazz?

In my first Post I ment to ask for good Eberhard Weber records not Schöner. The edit resulted in the confusing double post.

I don't know any of these apart from Codona, which I eventually got rid of I think.

One I do like is Saudades by Nana Vasconcelos, which my ex-girlfriend described as 'embarrassing' and 'I feel sorry for him'. It's really good.

I only have this but it is superb- perhaps it's one of your boring ones, though. The strings are beautiful. If there are other good E W records I'd like to know too.

I like these two. Jack did a few on ECM and this is the only one I've heard. Its not essential but it can be had cheaply enough:

Also 'Zakir Hussain' making music is a beautiful album, picked it up on CD last year but one I'd known for a while it turned out. :
