  • Licensed to Ill turns 30

Licensed to ill was released 30 years ago today.
I was 9 years old, it totally changed my whole outlook on music.

im guessing this was a big record or a lot of people here, opening up the world of Hip hop to a lot of us?

When I was 9 I was still playing with trainsets, making model aircraft, and gazing longingly in the Tamiya catalogue.
I knew nothing of this hip hop.

I was down our price and woolworths looking for vinyl with my pocket money. my parents always bring up that I liked nothing, I didn't like playing, I didn't want toys until the day I asked for a record player when I was about 8 ish

I was about 12 when I played the entire album for the first time. I nicked the tape from my parents collection and played it on my Walkman on a very long road trip that ended in a busted engine in the middle of the night. Must have played it over and over and over until five o clock in the morning.
