  • Sad cop music

I am a craggy but attractive 40-year old TV cop in a rough precinct. I have had a tough day. My attractive Puerto Rican partner Silvia told me about the miscarriage she dare not tell her husband about and I put my hand around her shoulders as she wept. Later I talked a street punk who was pointing a gun at me down and put him on the straight and narrow. I have just arrived home at 10 pm and discovered that my girlfriend Sandy has packed her bags and left. I guess she was right - this goddam job may be more important to me than she was after all.
I look at the whisky bottle - my best friend and my worst enemy - for long time and pour myself a shot. Straight.
As I sit in my empty apartment, the lights of the city shine through the window and the following world weary tunes play as the credits roll.

Can anyone suggest anything else in a similar resigned, big city late night blues vein?

PS: There should also be a neighbour's cat that you feed, which wanders in through the open window and winds round your feet, miaowing

Not a Cop but he was always sticking his nose in to police business and solving crimes. Let it play. :

Hill Street Blues is probably what gave me the idea for sad cop music in the first place. Kenyon Hopkins is great, but a wee bit 60s while Earl Bostic and Warren Barker are also cool, but way too early. I do not wear a Homburg or rescue dames from the mob and I am trying to give up smoking.

I would have thought 70s and 80s soundtracks and smooth jazz would be full of sad cop music, but I can´t find anymore despite scouring Mike Post, Bob James and Dave Grusin . I noticed a good sad cop tune in Rocky 2 but it's not on the soundtrack

I wish I had said my wedding vows in an abrupt, firm and assertive 'Quincy M.D' manner. I don't know if I would have let my wife sing mind you.

I thought I'd watched every episode of Quincy but I have never seen that one!

You and Sandy are reunited in the sequel. No surprises there.

There is a twist, but I won't ruin it for you.

Probably still not quite what you are after. Old news, but great to revisit:

Also "Bedroom" from "Analyze That". More of an end of film/end of mix piece, though. Not on Youtube, although there is a remix that drags 1.02 out to 4.42.

Some of the slower tracks from "Hanged Man"? "The Spic"? "Gentle in the Night"?
