Vinyl science...

Can anyone tell me what temperature vinyl starts to melt at? I know it goes loopy when you very stupidly lean your records against an "on" radiator and melty when you leave them out in the sun, but is there a definitive temperature that vinyl will start to damage? Also, if you superfreeze vinyl, will it explode?

There must be some scientists out there that know the molecular breakdown stuff and that....

I was thinking we could all contribute to a vinyl capsule and launch it into space so that one day... not in 5 years, or 50 years but 500 years.... someone out there could start a new world based on the vinyl scriptures... a society that worships Keith Mansfield as a prophet, surely not??

My Ph.D. says it won't explode if you superfreeze but it might create tension which causes it to crack...
