  • School me on Dutch Prog

Earth and Fire, Supersister, Brainbox are mostly dead cheap and good prog fun. What else do I need?

Never got in to Focus though. I suppose I have to draw a line somewhere.

Group 1850 is better than I anticipated. Thanks for the tip.

Ant what are Boudewijns other albums like? And do I need the 45 that comes with this album or should I just pretend it doesnt exist?

As far as i know (please someone correct me if i'm wrong) none of his other albums are Prog. Came out of the 60's, more of a serious Dutch pop artist. The 45 really is surplus to requirements

                    Lady Lake -No Pictures
                    Pythagoras
                    Thomas Flinter (first album)
                    Lethe
                    Mirror -Daybreak
                    Coda -Sounds Of Passion
Kayak (up until 1978 or so)
                    Flyte -Dawn Dancer (Dutch-Belgian hybrid)
                    Vance -An Epitaph For Mary
                    Finch (all 3 are excellent)

Not really Prog, closer to Psych imo, but not to be missed is The Use Of Ashes, especially their first album, The Castle Of Fair Welcome, made when they were still going by the name Mekanik Kommando. TCoFW is a Psychedelic Folk album, though. They mostly lost the Folk element afterwards.

There are a few later bands only on CD that are worth owning also.

thanks for all the recommendations. I am not brave enough to venture into the late 70s side of prog quite yet but your recommendations will keep me busy. (if I can afford them..sheesh...)

Hurdy Gurdy were Danish....I used to chat to the drummer Jens when we had stalls at Camden. Claus the guitarist, last I heard, lives in Cornwall and used to play out in the area.
