Anyone else feeling a bit pissed off with Blackburn presenting this now. Heard some of it this morning and it was poor to say the least. More like a standard Radio 2 weekday prog with him playing a lot of HIS choices, so basically middle of the road soul. The timing of 6-8 am is appalling too. Another good programme hits the buffers. As Trumety Trump may say. Shame!

My Dad's favourite show and I have many a fond memory of listening to it on a Saturday morning. It would never be the usual 'best of the sixties' compilation fare and was just a good old fashioned music show that would play things you wouldn't hear on the radio anywhere else certainly on a Saturday morning. I have nothing against Tony Blackburn but they could not have picked a worst person to replace Brian.Mixes, Music: https://www.mixcloud.com/amitron_7/

So what happened with Brian Matthews? Was he just ousted? I heard it wasn't his idea. Is Phil Swern still co-pilot.Everyone tear down your own little wall

I'll miss BM, but i might give TB a go, out of curiosity more than anything. I used to listen every week if I wasn't working, but they didn't play too much that I was interested in really. I ended up not listening and scanning through the online playlists for anything unusual.Everyone tear down your own little wall

I've never heard of this show but read this Telegraph corrective in the popbitch mailout, so here it is:
>> Mailing health <<
Poor excuse for BBC bashing
Never ones to miss a chance to
clobber the BBC, the Mail and
the Telegraph have been quick
to condemn Radio 2 for dropping
Brian Matthew from the Sound
Of The Sixties – citing it as
yet more proof of the Beeb's
endemic ageism.
The truth, however, appears to
be slightly more sad. The "ill
health" discussed in the BBC's
statement is most likely not
a reference to the fall that
Matthew suffered last year,
but a slightly more discreet
way of referring to some of
the other difficulties that
might start to get in the way
of an 88 year-old doing a
regular radio show.
Yet, in attempting to quietly
protect his dignity, the BBC
has left itself open to further
thrashing from the right-wing
press.
Journalists are aware of this,
of course, but the opportunity
to land a hit on the BBC was
too good to pass up.

It was always Phil Swern's show, anyway.
If Blackburn is going to have input into the programming, the legend will be ruined.
I won't be listening anymore due to the earlier slot. I hope Dermot is satisfied.

Didn't know it was on earlier too! That's that then.
