  • Speaker recommendations anyone? Warning seriously boring!

Think its about time I upgraded my equipment so i'm going to start with some new speakers. Trouble is i'm absolutely clueless and don't fancy the hours/days of research looking into what's decent on what hifi. So i'm thinking around 300 quid limit and maybe picking something decent up second hand. Anyone have any recommendations?

I cant recommend anything from recent years but I think if you're spending £300 I'd go second hand all the way, loads more bang for your buck I reckon and I'd hope to find a seller nearby who can demonstrate them.

Well Dave, if you're looking at a new pair of passive speakers for around £300 it's definitely worth looking at the monitor audio bronze 2's, the wharfedale diamond 220's or the cambridge audio aero 2's. I used a cambridge audio amp and speakers for about 8 years then upgraded to wharfedale diamond pro's. My brother had monitor audio speakers for years and they're still going strong but he recently bought a cambridge audio soundbar with bluetooth

You can always go for an active pair of speakers and skip the amp if you have a decent phono stage.

I enjoy speakers with a pretty flat response though, other people prefer the brands that colour the sound quite heavily.

Don't skimp on good quality speaker wire.

Avoid bose and bang & olufsen.

I bought some second hand AE109 floorstanders a couple of years ago. Cheaper than what you're looking for but sound good to me!
