Anyone see this in the Guardian?

"As the King’s fans die of old age, and their collections hit the second-hand market, vintage Elvis records have never been cheaper".

Wonder if that will affect the 60's/70's market in coming years?

    Interesting article but nothing new.
The 60's market has to some extent already collapsed. Cliff, Gerry & the Pacemakers et al used to sell like hot cakes two decades ago & now you can't give them away. However, the prices on freakbeat, psychedelia and garage punk are still going up as they appeal to younger collectors

Also, think about the numbers that Elvis records sold in. Maybe not so many at the beginning but as soon as he hit his prime, must have been in the 100,000s ...

I bought quite a few nice nick EPs and original tri centre RCA singles at a car boot yesterday, they were 4 for £1 so I couldn't leave them really,
hopefully turn them over for a quid each at the forthcoming Milton Keynes fair - I'm so ruthless

At a booty a bit back and I stumbled across a huge box of Elvis albums, they were there week after week. i often thought about offering them a price for the lot for an instant collection then realised I hate Elvis. Sad as they were obviously someones well looked after collection but no one was interested even at a quid a pop.

Similar to that shop in Buxton I kept passing that had a large Elvis collection going nowhere. The early Sun rock and roll aside there isn't that much that isn't destined for the charity boxes and landfill.

I say I hate Elvis but Its sort of tongue in cheek as I quite like some of the later burger, white jumpsuit, practicing his Karate moves on stage Elvis period and as Agnes alludes some of those early sessions are groundbreaking if only in terms of production but I would not have a clue where to start there must have been getting near on 200 albums in this box all by the King!

                    where to start with Elvis?

                    I'd say right here:

                    Sublime.

Just to confound the original prediction, the highest selling record on ebay last week according to popsike was:

Elvis Presley - Sails WITHDRAWN SLEEVE - EPA 4325 6211 USD

You see, this is why I love this board sometimes....

As if this is Elvis, surely its a funked up greasy modded out hipster imposter!

This track certainly is sublime, did he do anything else as good as this? I heard this slightly psychedelic track he did the other day and did quite like it too....

Some infectious melodies going on there.

I also like the super slowed down early take (first on this video) which peters out when Elvis says "Hell, no". I'd like to be able to say 'Hell no' myself but it would sound a little incongruous coming out of my mouth.

Having to deal with Presley collectors in a record shop is a unique pain only surpassed by having to deal with Depeche Mode collectors, so there's a small part of me that's kind of enjoying their priceless collections tanking in value.

Having said that, he's done a bunch of stuff I can't front on, I always had a soft spot for this easy to pick up bit of Vegas R&B.
