  • Today's Charity Finds

Since I'm off next week on my travels I'm trying to empty every charity shop around here to discorouge Rich Hero and Bongolio from muscling in on my patch when I'm away. Found a few Vulture classics that I own multiple copies of and a few modern dance 12"'s that I know nothing about. If anyone has any titles that are similar to the ones I picked up an are good then let me know as a place near me has loads as a DJ dropped of all his promos.

    All records were 29p!!

Howard Blake - Hammond in Percussion
    Circles of Sound Sampler
Audio Fair Sampler - This features my fave charity shop track, Scarborough Fair by The Harry South Brass. I've never been lucky enough to see the LP though, anyone know what it is like?
Popular Guide to Stereo - Shaft by Birds and Brass
Stereo Spectacular 2 - Not seen this sampler before, probably shite!!
Rediffusion Sampler - Sort of Soul Birds and Brass
Various - The Indestructible Beat of Soweto
    Toumani Diabate - Songhai (?????????)
    SoulBrothers - Earthworks
Rolling Stones - Mixed Emotions 12"
U2 - Even Better than the Real Thing - Oakenfold Mixes
Jamiroquai - Blow your Mind 12"
Baz Fe Jazz Jazz Dance Comp
Pillows and Prayers comp - Cherry Red 1982 1982 (????????)
Baz Fe Jazz - Jam For Boppers
De La Soul - Eye Know 12"
    The Godfather Soundtrack
    Orbital - Satan Live
Candido - Dancin and Prancin 1988 remixes
Superseal - Scratch break record I think
Pacific Rhythm - The First wave comp
    Shamen - Universal 12"
Desert Island Discs - Wildstyle EP
Howie B - Take your Partner by the Hand (Sealed)
5 Minutes of Funk - Bring it Back 10"
Smiths Flexi - When it Comes to the Crunch Flexi

    and .......

The World of Oz - Mint Deram rarity!!!!

Any info on any of the above much appreciated!!

I've got it.. As I recall Scarborough Fair is by far and away the best 'un, but it's been a while since I've dug it out (I remember playing this one on the opening of my account at Brillo!). So there's another for the listening pile..
Let him have the lot for £2.00 - we were only going to throw 'em out anyway...

It's the LP which is listed in RC (or at least in their recent Deram special) at £100

really? I'm amazed it's listed that high now. A crap forgetable whimsy piece if ever there was one. Nice if you manage to sell it for that much (or more)

yeah, that's what I'd say - gave mine away years ago. The theme from the 'Magic Roundabout' is more pop-sike than that LP. still if llmod has picked it up for pence and can sell it for quids it's a result

Totally. Picking anything up on deram on sight is a total no brainer. Damn the RC has a lot to answer for!

Audio Fair - is this the same as, or related to, the fontana living presence series? The Harry South 'Scarborough Fair' I've got is on the 'Say No More' LP, which I'd rate pretty highly more or less all round (one of those sets you play from start to finish, well I always do anyway). Is this the version you're talking about, or did he do a funkier later take on the tune?

Pretty much anything by Harry South must be worth picking up, mind...

All this before midday on a wednesday morning? This doesn't happen too often (for me anyway) though nearly wept at 9 beatles yellow/black label 1st pressings that had been attacked with a compass or something, every track destroyed (ahh kids eh?).

Marcia Griffiths/Horace Taylor - Feel Like Jumping/Thundering Vibrations - Coxsone

                    LP’s
Francoise Hardy - En Anglais - United Artists

The Tremeloes - Master - CBS
Baglama - No1 - Sarajevo (Cover picture looks like rejects from The Magic Band, but they are Yugoslavian New Wave)
                    Wayne Newton & The Mindbenders - S/T - Wing
Brownie McGhee & Sonny Terry - Browne & Sunny - Society

Which charity shops does eveyone go in! All the ones near me are full of South Pacific, leo Sayer and James Last LPs. I hardly ever find any soul or decent stuff. So far this week ive only picked up one album which was a private press Hamond Organ LP (which actually was pretty decent)..

Hadrian Elephant used to play tambourine for them ( ). They're a Suffolk band Mark - there's quite a few very passable covers on that LP (although I don't think Ben V was very impressed ).

And, to answer your question Mr Muench, all of them. Some people seem to do better than others but the law of averages dictates that the more charities you visit and the more often you visit them the more likely you'll turn up that copy of 'Moody' for 50p. Legwork or money - you pay for your records one way or another.

As it happens about 3 weeks ago i did get Moody, but for 99p so shouldn`t grumble really. problem is that due to work i have to go to the same shops every bloody day and its slowly getting me down. Have noticed that the quality has dropped in the last few months with prices climbing but not much new stuff coming through. ah well maybe its just a faze.
