joining the bay-- credit card

so thought it about time I joined ebay. Got half way through registration and it asked me to put in credit card details to confirm who I am. Is this correct or have I been transferred to another site?

didnt want to be using my credit card anyhow.

Christ, it's been sooo long since I registered (1999!), they've probably changed the rules a dozen times over the years!

When I signed up I remember you had to submit a valid credit card number IF you had an anonymous e-mail adress such as hotmail, yahoo etc...
If you submitted an e-mail adress that was considered verifiable (such as to your workplace or your university) you were not obligated to enter a credit card number.
But as Sie said - things have changed a lot of times...

When I joined I had to put in credit card details and I think they did a 'test' transaction where they took out one cent or something then paid it back. I had a worried phone call from my bank but I think its pretty standard. Isn't it?

ok thanks guys just got a little worried this morning. What if I register through a work email address but then change to my hotmail. Is that gonna work?

Nope, that's what happened to me. I signed up with my University mail, but when I wanted to change to hotmail I was asked to state a credit card number, so I succumbed...

ok looks like cc it is then. Really I was just scared I was re-directed to somewhere else but I guess I'll just run an anti spyware software 1st to make sure I havent been re-directed. Thanks you lot
