  • tony osborne...blaxploitation dude?

i was checking allmovie guide for some blaxploitation info, and saw one tony osborne listed as composer for the "black gunn" movie...
does anyone know - is this the same tony osborne (as featured on the main VV site) who did a load of lounge/easy stuff in the uk in the 50's & 60's. i scanned the VV feature, but couldn't find any reference to anything connected with funky low-down pimp-shit (unless you count mandingo)...

ps - i checked the VV feature again, and it seems some of the text is missing at the bottom of the page, also apparently including a link to another tony osborne-related site that maybe has the answer...?

Yeah - there seems to be a problem with the bottom of some of the pages. I'll get manzo on the case...
If you're looking for a pristine copy then this isn't the one for you. The vinyl looks like someone has polished their brickwork with it and the label has been ruined by some fool with a pen.

      I'll get onto it!
      Don't call it a comeback... H, N, and the number 7.
      Ok, it's a bit of a comeback, I suppose...

I thought that I'd fixed that ages ago - turns out that I hadn't uploaded. Let me know if there are any other pages like that.

          re: tony osborne...

          dear manzo
thanks for updating the tony osborne page so quickly. sorry to be a PITA about this, but i've also noticed his surname spelt wrongly (with a "U" in it), on the list of VV interviewees...

          re mr O:
i checked out the linked site, but although it was a mine of information, i'm still no closer to finding the answer to my original question. can anyone out there shed any light on this?

          thanks

Tony Osborne/Black Gunn: wot no takers?

well, i'm surprised to say that my query here seems to have stumped everybody. either that, or no-ones interested or prepared to enlighten me...

anyway, to pursue my own interest, i did some more research on this, and actually managed to pick up a video of the film in question ("Black Gunn") off e-bay quite cheaply...

the opening credits definitely state "music by Tony Osborne". funky blaxploitation title theme apart, the film has some lounge/porno type stuff underscoring scenes where Jim Brown (aka Gunn) gets it on with his chick, and some hip jazz for a garden party. but the best is some roy budd-like chase music, when Gunn pursues a henchman (played by the geezer who was the cologne-drenched camp villain in "Diamonds are Forever") through the suburban streets - great to sample, as this lasts for a good 2 minutes, with only screeching tyres as additional soundtrack.

for the record, the film itself (the usual brothers vs whiteys crime drama) is terrible - badly paced, incoherant, and poorly acted, despite the presence of Brown, & Martin Landau as the chief baddie (Barry Normal, look out!). it is supposed to be set in LA (i think), although apparently there was a British investment in it, which again indicates that it is the same Tony Osborne as that featured in the VV interview.

perhaps whoever interviewed Tone for VV can get back in touch with him, and put me out of my misery. Otherwise, anyone reading this: feel free to enlighten me in any way if you are able...thanks

              Hello Gavvo

I've looked at this on the Soundtrack Collector website (here) and Tony Osborne only has one listing - no mention of Black Gunn either, so it remains a mystery, I'm afraid. Sorry if you've looked here already and reached the same conclusion! The website is worth knowing about, though, if you haven't stumbled across it before.

Funny how watching a film and googling the lp or lack of, brings you back here most of the time. Anyhow I can concur if there was a sound track lp it would be pretty good. I don't suppose anyone ever got any more info on it.
