    http://www.45blog.com/

i normally avoid weblogs since they tend to bring me out in a Cope-like fury at the sheer inanity of the posts, but one's with a purpose (i.e. music!) can be good.

it's only been up a few days, but some interesting stuff, with label scans and sound clips, which makes all the difference. the Kathy Green on Deram sounds right up the VV alley, so to speak, and the author links to here...

I think the 45 blog that Brent hosts is better: http://www.funkandsoul.blogspot.com/

maybe, although it's more about rare soul, funk and bad disco, sorry 'modern soul' , less chance of VV type stuff, but i figured everyone had seen that one already... although maybe not... also the contributors just tend to stick up a scan and expect everyone to go "wow!", whereas i like to actually read something about the artist, song or label...

A couple of points, 1) I am not a fan of "Modern soul" and very little has appeared on the blog. 2) The point of simply showing labels and sound clips without comment is to allow the viewers, most of whom know nothing of the value or rarity of the records, to judge them as music without my opinion. Plus I just like the aesthetic of 45 labels with no text. 3) VV does a great job of covering the weird gear, latin, ost, library, etc. world, as others do a great job-Funky 16 corners- of descriptive writing about soul and funk 45's.
My intent was to make a site that I would have liked when I first started collecting this stuff, not to show off and make people go wow. I do collect VV type material it's how I started, and my band The Neapolitans is much closer to the weird gear world than the "new funk scene"-listen to Nicks new comp.
