I clearly am opening myself up to a whole world of pain here & am going to look bloody stupid, but I have got to ask.

    A 'dink' is what?

        HERE!

There's often some up on eBay but I couldn't find any decent cones right now.

I thought these were called adaptors + dinkers were those nasty torturous looking instruments designed for carving nice UK pressings into a jukebox-friendly format?

that's what i thought too. where has Sarge gone?

although i thought the dinkers were only really needed when they started making those horrible moulded labels in the 70s with the thin plain section to fill in the large hole (does that make any sense?). before then most 45s seem to have the press-out middles...

Ah! Those late '70s Polydor releases, for example. My Hanged Man 45 has that kind of middle.

There are some beefy ones available from the Equipment section on www.turntablelab.com - I have these and am well satisfied.

I'm not sure about value for money but I know that if you try to get the Technics ones as "replacement parts" you will be fleeced. These are cheaper than that and a superior "dink" if I may venture an opinion.

I would go into sounds of the universe and buy the £1 plastic ones.

                              Why?

Because you'll lose them on your first gig.
