  • Motown Remixed

I suppose it was only a matter of time. First Verve, then Blue Note. Now Motown has got in on the act.

    motown remixed

The two samples on the website of Marvin Gaye & Stevie Wonder left me cold.

    Oh dear.

kind of a dead trend imo. I used to love remix albums but they've been so overdone that I actually hate hearing them now. i'd rather listen to the OG than to have to endure some half-assed remix. blah.

the jackson 5 one sounded ok (not brilliant) but the stevie wonder one was crap the drums took all the feeling out of the song. honestly cant see the point in doing this at all.

I did an edit of a J5 tune for this project. It's going on a 12-inch to promote the first volume and then on the CD of the second. I must admit, I was a bit underwhelmed by most of the mixes I've heard.

Body Language. It's not on this CD. Motown are doing a deal with Whistlebump's label to put it out through there with a Tom Moulton Mix on the other side, I think.

Just heard a bit of what was playing: a mix of I Want You Back... Sorry Z, but that's one of the funniest things I've ever heard! Almost as funny as that diabolical hip hop cover of Eleanor Rigby, hoo hoo!

It's all a bit Guardian-hip embarrassing dad, innit?!

It helps you if you can purge the original out of your head, but personally I couldn't though I can see its appeal.

'Shook Ones' on Radio 2? I like the idea of that.

This may come as a surprise to some, but I rarely listen to any music radio - I prefer the soothing tones and heady debate of Radio 4. They had an entire programme dedicated to the bassoon the other day.. great stuff.

Anyway, I got a promo of the Stevie 12" which has a nice mix featuring Q-Tip, plus a 'Global Soul Radio Mix' which is a quite tidy mid-tempo disco affair (and filches the bassline from Nu Shooz 'Don't Make Me Wait'). In summary, I think it's a decent effort and it's been going down well when I've played it out..
Let him have the lot for £2.00 - we were only going to throw 'em out anyway...

Must admit first time i heard the Steevie tune i quite liked it, sounded a bit like an old Dr Dre tune, but its been played so much that its gettin on me tits now. Still its better than the new Cliff Richard single which is in current rotation.
