  • Licorice soul records lsd001 out monday on 45!

Regular visitors to the VV site and Blaxploitation.com might have been wondering why we've been so quiet over the last couple of months. Well, the time has come to announce the reason why... Licorice Soul Records!

Licorice Soul Records is bought to you by Sie Watson and Chris Malins of www.vinylvulture.co.uk and Ed Griffiths of www.blaxploitation.com.

Licorice Soul Records is a new UK-based record label dedicated to reissuing the very best obscure British and European dancefloor funk on high quality, strictly limited edition vinyl formats.

All Licorice Soul releases are officially licensed, remastered from the original master recordings and produced to the highest standards. We pride ourselves on going the extra distance to make our releases stand out from the crowd and to this end Licorice Soul provide articles on our website to accompany each release, giving personnel details, rare session photos and exclusive interviews from the artists involved in the making of each recording.

    FIRST RELEASE
    =============
    Licorice Soul Records LSD 001
Release date: Monday 4th August 2003
    The Terry Cavendish Orchestra
    A: Leagueliner
    B: Organ Grinder's Swing
Limited edition of 700 individually numbered copies

Recorded under a pseudonym by top British sessioneer Ray Davies, featuring The Mohawks' Alan Hawkshaw on Hammond organ and library funk stalwarts Alan Parker on guitar, Herbie Flowers on bass and Alf Bigden on drums, these two classic UK funk tracks are issued here on 45rpm single for the first time!

Originally recorded for the Boosey & Hawkes library and later issued as The Terry Cavendish Orchestra on a rare 1973 Pye Quadrophonic LP, this release is the first in a series of forgotten gems unearthed by new UK label Licorice Soul.

      Superb stuff Ed!

No Doubt I'll be purchasing a copy from the plain brown box you'll surely be bringing down on the 11th... I'm sure Disc will take a bunch too...

Congrats. Is that pic on the website the original cover or your cover? Either way, I really like it.

Cheers Nick - kinda depends if Chris can stand up long enuff to put records in his bag !

            "oooh, me back"

poor fella's in a bad way, just spoke to him...

If you're looking for a pristine copy then this isn't the one for you. The vinyl looks like someone has polished their brickwork with it and the label has been ruined by some fool with a pen.

That's what those little green men from Willy Wonka are for... BTW, have you tried watching that film, taking every line spoken as a reference to porn?

I also want to take a classic Connery Bond film and superimpose a counter in the bottom right corner that counts the units of alcohol Bond drinks throughout the film...

Oh, and have an extra track of audio on an episode of Eastenders that goes 'phwooar' in the background whenever an attractive female character is in shot, and 'yuueech' whenever an unattractive female character is in shot - quite quietly in the background, but getting gradually louder the longer the character in question remains in that particular scene...

              Um, I'd better go now.

Those tracks sound cracking! If you're bringing any to the next Brillo I'll be buying (crisp new notes or used readies?) and cut out the middle men.

And our firewall's blocked PayPal - nooooo!!!

Definately concur with Rich, Eman - bring a plethora along with you and I shall part with some Tony.

Ooh and best of luck with the venture, chaps. All looks good!

. . .and you've chosen the day of my wedding to launch the first single! I'll try not to let the tears of joy smudge the ink as I write out a cheque. . .

Probably won't post anything up when I'm on honeymoon. Well, not unless Dubrovnik is hiding vast quantities of glorious vinyl!

Peace and love to all vultures, everywhere. Tommo signing off.
