If anyone is interested in, shock horror, using software to DJ with, I've got an article on the subject on our new look Academy website, in the topics section...

Could be good for doing live Manzo style megamixes, but really more for the housey techno sorts... Must say though, as my flatmate departs back to Canada and has sold off his decks etc, I'll be switching to Traktor and digi files of my tunes to mix with at home, rather than buy new decks - but the buck stops at laptopping in clubs and bars...

I quite fancy Traktor to use on another project I'm doing, but I think my poor old G3 would have a heart attack - looking at the system specs ..

Yes, I mention Abelton Live in the article - not strictly DJ software, but with enough preparation, you can do much more dynamic stuff with it. Perfect for live cut'n'paste style magamixes...

There'll also be a demonstration of Live by Detroit's Brendan Gillen (Ectomorph) on the RBMA site real soon... All very Detroit Techno and Ghetto Tec, but you'll get the drift of it!

I don't use any dj software but I do use . . . . . . CD decks as well as vinyl decks.
Almost always to play ( or more usually to play with ) things I've got onto the computer, via soundcard or modem, and then burnt on to cd-r rather than commercial cds - so it's kind of the same thing as using software, as you can scratch, loop etc bits that wouldn't otherwise be able to cos they're not on vinyl, or more dubiously I suppose, not on your vinyl ( or you only have one vinyl copy ).

Anyway, no other way I know to scratch with today's countdown conundrum today!

Where's my Richard Whitely smilie! . . . oh no, it's me who does those! ( btw I'm pretty sure there's a backlog of smilie orders - can't promise to promise too much, but please resubmit! )

and I turned down the chance to try to go to cape town!

er was I drunk/drugged/naked/whipped/on fire that day?

If you still want to do something about guerilla record/label running for the website then I'm up for that.

Fook!, i missed this thread, as i initialy thought it might be aboot fookin' crusty 'dog on 't' string' fookin' didgereedoo players or whatever they're fookin' called, untill i saw the words 'Detroit' 'Techno' 'an 'DJ software' now i know for a fact that me 'ol mate Kevin 'Inner City' Saunderson uses some pretty hi tech software to dj with, mainly to promote his own KMS label, as he now carries very few vinyl records with him, most of his fookin' massive collection of records has been converted into audio files for use with this software, now i'm not sure if this file system is WAV based or they're simply huge fookin' samples that can be manipulated in real time, i'll have to check with Kev to find out. But based on the small number of occasions that i have seen him play, he's been fookin' bang on the money, and the sound is always top fookin' notch i tell thee. Hmmmm interestin'.........i'll be back on this one....
