Hi

Nice day's work -

that Brigitte Fontaine (which I have, like most of her stuff up to 'Vous Es Nous', on CD) is a beautiful record: Vannier productions, less jarring than some of her later things but still full of nice innovative touches: a favorite of mine. Didn't know RCA had issued her stuff, either: is that a non-French European or American pressing, licensed from Saravah? Could make her vinyl a bit easier to find if RCA released it outside France...

And I'd love to know what the Norrie Paramour 'Law Beat' is like... I've been skipping past a copy of that for several weeks at about three quid, &amp; each time I wonder whether to pick it up...but I'm never quite sure...

But looks like a good day, there: hope the weather was as nice as the haul!

that Law Beat LP is worth the three quid. some really good arrangements and nice funky moments, if overall a little cheesy. it also includes a couple of rare themes that don't turn up anywhere else. wouldn't pay more than a fiver though.

the weather was amazing yesterday. Very hot, could only wear a t-shirt. Really nice, thanx.

About the B Fontaine record. There's a Saravah logo on the cover, but i guess RCA was the distributor. It was made in France.

That Law Beat is nice if you like Big Bands arrangements for cop show tunes. I only played it for like 5 minutes, skipping between tracks, but it sounds good. I've heard the BF record though and it's ace. It's my first BF record by the way...

As a bit of BF fan, I'd say her stuff is mostly worth tracking down: but she does get into some pretty avant-garde areas at times, &amp; some of her records can be pretty rocky rides. Apart from 'est...', I'd definitely recommend 'comme a la radio' (which pairs her with Art Ensemble Of Chicago), 'Vous et Nous' (with Areski Belcacem - a weird mix of folk/arabic/pop/chanson that works really well) and the self titled 'Brigitte Fontaine' (which has a green cover, &amp; is about 30 minutes long - but 20 of those minutes are well worthwhile: the opener, 'Brigitte', is a great track). She apparently retired after 'Vous et Nous' (around '77, I think) but came back in the 90s with much more avant/rock leanings: of the more recent stuff, the 'Calimero' single on Stereolab's Ultra-Duophonic is good, but other things I've heard (like the 'Kekeland' LP) are more in the vein of US indie rock/noise, so less to my taste on the whole. She's so unpredictable, though, that even her bad records often have completely sublime tracks or moments on them...

As for Mr Paramour's 'Law Beat', if it's still there next time I check I'll be picking that one up...sounds worth a listen!

It was the Griffithsmeister. I have his 'heads &amp; tails' LP, and that has madflutescatdrama all over it. Was the Bod theme ever on any BBC albums??

i would love the heads and tails album - didn't know it existed! i remember quite a few of the songs. it seems everyone loves the great man derek griffiths, regardless of their individual tastes. surely the bod theme must be lurking on a bbc themes record somewhere???

I'd be happy to put it on CD for you if you like. Some great little songs on there, with a locked groove at the end of side one to remind you to turn over! I'll keep my eyes peeled for another copy ...
