  • Sie Mumbai..!

Arrived home this morning after a quick 4-day work trip in India and was able to pick up around 30 Indian LP's... Most of these came from a market in Mumbai, but 5-6 of the classier bits were from the stall near Red Fort in Delhi (not cheap, but hey! where better to buy them and still waaaaaay cheaper than EU/eBay prices). Anyone going out there and needs a heads up, let me know.

Basically, I went bonkers for anything by RD Burman and Bappi Lahiri and any other names I recognised whilst in Mumbai. A few were speculative cheap punts too, we'll see how they shape up after a clean and a listen.

Have taken a listen to a couple of the LPs already whilst pottering about the house and there are some tracks to be heard. I feel a mix coming on..!

"The Great Gambler" is the first issue (I got the 2nd issue last time I visited) ... oh, one of these LP's is from Pakistan (and it is very good from my first listen) and I also got the "Shalimar" 45 EP with 2 of the 3 great tracks from the LP on it... well pleased!

If you're looking for a pristine copy then this isn't the one for you. The vinyl looks like someone has polished their brickwork with it and the label has been ruined by some fool with a pen.

        This one:-

It's good Hindi music, but all tracks are vocal and there are no killer instrumentals. Close, but no cigar compared with some of the others...

Well done on that Khyber Mail LP. That's eluded me on numerous occasions.

Most of the classics in one go there Sie! Kybher Mail is great. Think I put a track from there on one of the first Funk Around the World Volumes.

Aye - just found that out whilst ploughing my way through them. Damn! I passed on the 45 from the soundtrack as well, so double-damn...

I'm back there in December so will have another look...
