Still in Shrink 2013 reissue of this came today on the cheap, got a few more purchases to come and finds to posts but I'm reigning it in pretty well. This is hard blues and sweet sounding Southern Rock with a dash of prog from 1972 featuring 'Jimmy Carl Black' yep the one from Zappa's early line up on drums, vocals and writing duties and other luminaries. Its a treat right down to the gatefold sleeve and illustrated inner:

These look the type of fellas who would go real quiet and stare as I swung open the saloon doors and ordered a lemon and lime and asked if it was Curry Wednesday:

Jimmy Carl Black was of mixed native american background (according to Wikipedia) - not that that would necessarily have precluded such a comment.

Especially if it actually was curry Wednesday, and your arrival was purely a coincidence.

You misunderstand me Funk, it was a Brit reference to a pub chain in the UK who do or used to do a Wednesday night curry evening which is basically microwaved, its famously pretty horrid food.

No reference to his origin implied, indeed he's not even Asian so I don't get where your'e coming from tbh.

It was a throwaway joke to the fact that they all look pretty mean in a 'spaghetti western' kind of way ironic as you wouldn't describe those type of movies that way these days and with good reason.

Pretty upset you would think I was making some kind of racist comment because that's not me at all.

Edit: Just out of interest on a purely psychological level on how people process what they read on the internet, connect the dots if you will, or just look for evidence of things where there is none in this case race hatred. How on earth would you conclude I was specifically singling out 'Jimmy Carl Black' when the preceding text reads 'These look the type of fellas...' taking all that into account and the fact that not one of those guys looks Asian in the slightest would you come to such a bizarre conclusion?

Add to that my recent posting of my long term interest of Indian Classical music and various finds, why would you even think such a thing? I am interested because I see this kind of behavior on a regular basis where people look for evidence of sexism, racism etc in what people post on the internet where there is none. Is it a to garner some kind of rage towards me from others or is it you 'policing the internet as it were' for signs of such thing and doing it out of goodwill. I honestly find it fascinating in these current times things such as this. One of the reasons I stepped back from Twitter is because I observed this kind of herd behavior on an almost daily basis.

If anything I thought someone would take offence to me calling 'Richie Havens', 'Mr Massive Hands' but I only say that because the guy used to play barre chords using his thumb to barre the frets which is a pretty astounding feat if you've ever played a guitar.

Anyway cheers for ruining my day as if I haven't got enough on my plate without being accused of Xenophobia.

Wetherspoon's Curry Club was Thursday not Wednesday.

I never went though to see if the "Poppadom Frenzy!" that the poster advertised was true

Ah, well I went once a few years back at a 'Wetherspoons' in Slough and I can vouch it was proper rank. The mango chutney came in a little plastic box like how ketchup and BBQ sauce comes in Burger chains and it was solid as a rock!

My sis once ordered the cottage pie from 'Wetherspoons' and as she began to dig in she discovered the Paper instructions on how to microwave the pie was in the pie!

Back to some recent purchases and trades:

These are all cheap internet buys inspired partly by the 'Hauntology' thread and I caved into the 'Cavern of Anti Matter' triple too. 'Deuter - Aum' is a wonderful relaxing record. The 'Pan Symphony' record is all guitar and violin composed for some film or play an interesting record very chilled for the most part:

                    [IMG][/IMG]

Thanks to fuz in a recent trade I got the 'Joyride' reissue and 'Rick Curtis' both great and I hope he's happy with his. Been after an original copy of 'Icarus' for a while this comes with original inner sleeve and insert. It's a yellow label epic defo first press but its really thin I know its hardly a rare record but were epic known for pressing their vinyl so thin in the early 70's? Saw this 90's reissue of 'The Hanged Man' and caved in and the 'Christmas' is a boot (at least I assume so) but it was silly cheap, whoever is selling them must have a pile, would love a properly mastered version though or just the whole of side 2 as side 1 is sort of just a practice session of a bunch of obviously unfinished songs. From what I can gather it was released without their knowledge in the first instance however side 2 is a really good improvised jam session.

                    [IMG][/IMG]

I think I have enough Jake for now:

I stand by what I said about the charities getting 'em out for spring. £1 on the way to pick the dog up from the groomers. It would seem I need to do more dog errand related digging. Never found one of these before despite it being local - it's minty too.

Amidar, my train of thought was as follows:

                          (1) They do indeed look like a group of people in a kind of location who might give a person of colour a hard time. Dealing in stereotypes, but there you go.

                          (2) Hold on, one of them looks as though he might be of Mexican heritage. What is the name of the group again?

                          (3) The name suggests some sort of native-American connection. What does Wikipedia tell me about Jimmy Carl Black?

                          (4) Mixed native-American heritage. Worth pointing out. Still, being a non-wasp doesn’t necessarily mean that he was immune from racism.

                          (5) An afterthought. I suppose that logically it could actually be curry Wednesday [oblivious to the significance of the term in a UK context] and that the comment and your arrival are coincidental.

                          (6) Next topic.

No suggestion of racism on your part intended.

Sorry if I spoiled your day.

Looks like a misunderstanding on both our parts I thought you were accusing me of a kind of everyday racism kind of thing. I wasn't thinking in terms of colour just if I myself personally walked in to their bar and as a non drinker ordered a lemon and lime I might well get the evil eye off them! You know in a 'everyone stops talking' kind of way.

I can see your train of thought of now and its logic.

I am genuinely sorry for going off on one so I offer my apologies to you too.

No you didn't spoil my day all is good.

You know what you're in for, but you know, it's a private press from a school, it's 1968, it has a hand drawn sleeve. Well, you would wouldn't you....

Of course, it sounds just like my kids school plays
