  • Same again I dig that, probably more than the first two. Ta for the heads up! This forum always takes me in interesting musical directions especially on this thread all through finding some over produced bitty late eighties jazz/soul record.

Funny old world, we've just had a massive drama with one of the local homeless alcoholics passed out on the council greenery outside my house who kindly urinated in my drive.

    • First lot I missed off an earlier post. Couldn't be arsed at the time.

      [IMG][/IMG]

      Latest lot of big ones

      [IMG][/IMG]

      Recent littl'uns.

      [IMG][/IMG]

Los Salvajes - Todo Negro ep. Brill '66 Spanish garage ep. All killer no filler. Hats off to LDJB for dragging one back from Spain. One self penned corker and covers of Paint it black, With a girl like you, and Somebody help me.

Gilded Cage - Long long road / Baby Grumbling. Moody Hammond b side wins it for me every time.
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiTVPBugOQk

The Luv Bandits - Mizzer-Bahd / Blues #2. Jan '67 release. Blues#2 is what it says, a bluesy job. Eastern sounding top side, "Miss her bad.." geddit?
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3gvkhChWrA

Iris - Chrysalide / Decadence. Buy everything by this band. Chrysalide is an edited version of the lp track. Thanks to whoever it was that flagged up the Iris lp in the BIN thread. Superb.

Jess Junior & The Green Leaves - private press on Vibra records. Nearly fell out of the hotel window when Fuz played this to us back in November. Been looking for one ever since. Frantic, psychedelic? b side with horns, organ, fuzz and phasing. Absolutely chuffed to have this and be able to play it whenever the world is lacking colour. Not made it to Youtube yet.

Wallace Collection-Daydream / Baby I don't mind. Thanks again LDJB.

Science Poption - You've got me high / Back in town. Wanted this since I heard it on an early Rubble comp. Fabulous psychedelic pop 45 from Sweden. Published by Trippington Music. Too right. Great harmonies, catchy as the clap, obligatory fuzz and wiggy solo. Bliss

While we're on that tip, here's the original, picked up within a week of the above!
The New Order - You've got me high / Meet your match. May '66 New York. Very cool, stomping version.

Utopia - King of the road. Finland, '70, 1 sided fuzzy groover with fat horns

Couldn't press the BIN button quick enough when this popped up in my Discogs wants. Very (ridiculously!) cheap, due to a hairline crack which apparently didn't sound. Seller was right, plays clean as a whistle. Coveted this 45 since the first Acid Dreams comp. Was going to take the plunge on an Atco (slightly different version) copy. This is the og Hexagon issue.
White Lightning - Of Paupers and Poets / William.Minneapolis '69. Zippy Caplans' finest moment. Stunning Acid Punk wig-spinner par excellence.

          • Turboellis - the prices I see on the web suggest that "Karate Amazones" will be an object of interest to some. It occurs to me that an "Ooof" might be called for, but I am sketchy on the criteria.

The music is a bit 'Schifrin-by-numbers' for my taste. The CD has a bonus track that is the only reason that I have kept it.

            • N.I.T.I. - proustian moment...Nottingham back in the day.

I liked it enough then. And the low key minimalist approach has aged very well, I find.

They were ok prices. Hanged man, Open Road and Seven Ages of man all came out of the same box at Luton. Big thanks to Pete Sundae as it was him who pulled them out. I was a box behind him. Open Road was very cheap but on playing at home is a bit too noisy for that type of a listen. Looking for another cheap, less noisy copy now.

Yes Reza! Recommend that Mat 3 lp. Has a couple of poppy moments, but,- as I said in another thread-, pretty heavy on the CSN vibe in terms of spot on harmonies and weird David Crosby style tunings. Mine has a bit of a warp, but plays ok, so I ended up getting it for a fiver which I was well happy with.

                • A rummage around the East Midlands today.

The Rainbird LP looks intersting. Private press from '72 and has bongos and guitars. Not near a turntable until tomorrow so fingers crossed. Sight and Sounds and Geoff Love are spares. Only the 2nd time I've ever found that Geoff Love! Must be raer. Has a version of 'the Sweeney' on it. The 45s are private press punts. Also chuffed to find a US orig Coke in Henry's in Burton for £7! Need more time in that shop.

                  • I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by Rainbird. Nice find on the Coke lp too. Bargain Emily looks like fun, report back on that

Actually, what I meant to say was don't bother taking the Rainbird lp back home, just post it straight down here Organs, drums, phasing, what's not to like?

One of my record buying rules compels me to buy items like this ... especially when they're cheap ... the prices on Discogs hurt the bottom of my jaw ... it's good but in a generic way ... to call it Schifrin-by-numbers is an enormous compliment, but it was one of my better gambles this year

on that very subject, there's an interview with the guy from the winstons on this podcast, and how he make zero cash from it:

                          • There is a track on "Karate Amazones" which to my ears follows the "Dirty Harry" format - driving rhythm + ethereal vocal overlay. But not as good.

                            • Some recents from the wilds

Tim Souster - SW1T DR1MZ. Interesting avant garde meets pop excursions - the electronically processed viola solo that sounds like whale song is great. Lovely stuff.
Andy Mackay - Resolving Contradictions. Following a visit to China, this album is based off of or reflects on Chinese music styles.
Mikis Theodorakis - Z. Finally grabbed a copy of this well-known soundtrack on the cheap.
A couple of late 80s ECM albums I didn't know the artists - Mikhail Alperin, Dino Saluzzi. Both are stylistically what you'd expect, although Saluzzi is a bandoneon player so that records has a melancholy Argentine-tinged ECM sound which is super.
101 Strings - East Of Suez. Their 'exotica' album, thought I'd never find one, finally turns up in a charity shop.
Theolonius Monk - The Golden Monk. The guy that turns up at the car boot once or twice a year with bucketloads of awesome records for cheap was there. But I wasn't, until very late on. I picked this from the bleached carcass of his stall - 90% of the records he'd bought already gone.
The Sergio Mendes albums were charity shop pick ups, couldn't leave them behind.

Two Richard Torrance albums! I love Richard Torrance. Shocking cover art may be a clue to why he never really hit the big time.
I decided to purge all my Dory Previn albums. Then I decided that was stupid, because she's brilliant. Then I bought a copy of We're Children Of Coincidence And Harpo Marx to move closer to Dory Previn completionism.
Gary Myrick - Language. Chazza punt, 1983 mini-album which has some catchy slightly odd rocky stuff.
Les Reed - The Music Of Noel Coward. Never seen this one before. Not really a Coward fan and this instrumentals album doesn't rev things up enough for me.
Rockets - Plasteroid. Daft silver spacemen disco grooves.
A couple of classical lesser-spotted albums, and a beat up Otis Redding album for a quid.

                              • Some nice finds Sono, who leaves a Monk lp behind especially a British Press. Also that's 2 'Crystal Illusions' this month well worth it for the title track in my humble opinion. How is is 101 exotica album on a scale of Les Baxter to Carlini's World of Strings?

This came in the post yesterday late on , big hit for Stones Throw I would think ex Lootpack man snapped up by the majors soon after. Forgot to add, cheap ebay buy no one bothered to out bid me. :

This is the big tune from the album of course seem to remember it was on a TV show or something, could be wrong, the kids know it as I've been singing various basterdised versions of it to annoy them. :
