Sorry, I was talking about Janet the shopgirl from Kilburn M&S on backing vocals, not Janice the singer.

Not me, though. God, I needed that- work has been bloody awful today.

Half-time in the rugby (league) match, which gives me chance to show the few bits that I picked up after work yesterday:

Still loving my 80s pop 12"s with the clubby mixes, here's Duran getting their Chic on, an extended mix that you'd be bopping away to, before you realise who its and cringe with guilt. Reissue of The Ghost, which I bought out of sheer curiosity. Couple of decent tracks, but nowt amazing. Obviously, with the Brum connection, maybe they were trying to emulate Sabbath, but if you're going with the occult lyrics, you need to have Iommi, Butler and Ward backing you - think this one will head to the trades pile. Bottom left was purchased with fingers crossed that it might be like The Band, but it's more rootsy than that and more of a Soggy Bottom Boys feel to it. Perhaps a bit too Appalachian / Country for me in the end, but glad I bought it to find out. Bottom right was bought purely as I thought someone on here might want it for mixtape / sample fodder. Funnily enough, I'd spent a chunk of the afternoon skiving at work, reading through the BBC Records section on VG+'s very own Labels of Love, then I stumble on this. The Vinyl Gods move in strange ways.

So, to sum up, the only one of those I think is a definite keeper is, ironically, the Duran 12". Who knew?

the Tommy James has been recommended a few times on here and Waxidermy. It is a great sleeve

never seen that Afro Blues Quintet LP before - I like the first two though, is it any good?

Apart from the awful title track Guantanamera, has there ever been a good version of this, the rest is pretty good

Big Jim H's version is great!

                            also Roland Alphonso's is nice

(better flip though on that - The Spanishtonians "Suffer Me Not" )

(give Big Jim time to get going though, the beginning is pretty staid)
